Clinton, Mo. – (Feb. 3, 2020) – In recognition of American Heart Month, Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare (GVMH) is encouraging its patients and communities to understand how to prevent heart disease. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one in four Americans die from heart disease each year. Heart disease may be silent and go undiagnosed until a patient experiences symptoms of a heart attack, arrhythmia or heart failure.
To lower your risk of heart related issues, the CDC recommends that individuals:
• Choose a healthy diet
• Maintain a healthy weight
• Quit smoking
• Get regular physical activity
• Monitor cholesterol and blood pressure
To help patients following a cardiac event, GVMH offers a cardiac rehabilitation program at its outpatient facilities in Clinton, Osceola and Warsaw.
“Our cardiac rehabilitation staff helps patients design activities appropriate to their condition and personally supervises each patients’ rehabilitation program, which may include physical activity, guidance for healthy living or counseling,” said Kristal Moran, cardiac rehabilitation manager at GVMH. “By working together, we can improve the health and quality of life for our patients and help prevent future heart problems.”
