Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare Offers Voluntary Furlough Opportunity to Employees

Clinton, Mo. – (April 6, 2020) – Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare (GVMH), is providing certain employees the opportunity to take a 60 day voluntary furlough, if they choose.

The voluntary furlough is a temporary program that protects staff from a compensation and benefit standpoint during this time that some patient care services are limited. It also allows GVMH to focus on critical care areas and ramp up to prepare for a potential surge of patients impacted by COVID-19.

Employees that decide to go on voluntary furlough will have the ability to utilize their PHO (Paid Hours Off) and EIB (Extended Illness Bank) to continue receiving pay during the furlough time period, as well as access to enhanced benefits provided through the CARES Act. It provides assistance to individuals, families and businesses affected by the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. GVMH will also maintain health insurance for its employees during the extent of the furlough. Critical care staff are not eligible for furlough. They will be retained to ensure GVMH is fully prepared for whatever may occur. As another cost control measure, all members of the administrative and leadership teams have taken a temporary pay reduction to support the organization.

“Our voluntary furlough allows us to protect our most vital asset, our staff. It preserves jobs while providing benefits and helping employees access pay,” said Craig Thompson, CEO at GVMH. “We have delayed many elective services during the COVID-19 pandemic, and like all organizations, we have seen a decrease in business. Once current social limitations are lifted, we forecast a significant demand for services and will be prepared to meet our patient’s needs. We anticipate recalling all staff at the end of the furlough period, if not before.”
