Clinton, Mo. – (Aug. 3, 2020) – This year, Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare (GVMH) is emphasizing the importance of back-to-school wellness visits, now more than ever.
GVMH recommends that youth entering kindergarten through 12th grade start the fall semester with what is commonly referred to as a wellness visit or routine exam. These appointments are important for administering vaccines, assessing growth and development, discussing nutrition, ensuring immunizations are up to date and screening for potential health issues.
In addition, a wellness exam allows providers to assess and document chronic conditions, such as allergies and asthma, so that symptoms are not confused with COVID-19. If needed, GVMH providers can write a note for the student to give to the school to address any potential concerns.
Wellness visits will also help encompass the mental and physical health challenges that have come with the COVID-19 pandemic.
“With all of our kids getting back to school amongst their classmates, friends and teachers, we want to help educate them on safe practices such as wearing a mask, social distancing and hand washing,” said Meredith Cooper, Clinics Administrator at GVMH. “Making these practices part of their daily routine will help protect them and others, as well as reduce the spread of COVID-19.”
To schedule an appointment, contact your provider or call 660.890.7300.
GVMH walk-in clinics are also available to assist with all your acute healthcare needs. No appointment necessary. The hours for each location are on the website at gvmh.org.
