I remember learning about barn raising, first as a practical method for pioneers to settle an area; and later as a metaphor for raising social capital and building community.
Raising a barn reminds us of the remarkable things we can accomplish working together, most of which would be nearly impossible to do alone. The Golden Valley Memorial Hospital Foundation is a good example of this. Using grants and profits from our fundraising events, the GVMH Foundation is always working to make our communities healthier overall for all our neighbors.
Wigs to Linear Accelerators
We aim to enhance GVMH’s mission to keep our communities healthy without requiring long drives to appointments. We define our goals to include everything from providing wigs and other accessories for chemotherapy patients experiencing hair loss to helping provide the funds necessary to bring a state-of-the-art radiation oncology program to Clinton.
You Are Part of the Crew
Just as in a barn raising, none of us has the strength to do it alone, but by working together, we can build stronger, healthier communities for ourselves and future generations. Practically, that means giving generously when you have the opportunity, attending fundraisers such as our gala and golf tournaments, and remembering us in your long-term charitable planning.
Brains Also Needed
In addition to your financial and moral support, the Foundation needs — actually, the community needs — your input and ideas on where the Foundation can make a difference.
If you have ideas about how we can impact access to care, implement new equipment and technology, or support education and outreach programs to improve our health, we want to hear about them. We cannot promise support for every idea, but we promise to give your thoughts the attention they deserve.
The best way is to begin a dialog. And the best way to do that is to send us your ideas for consideration. Here is a link to our new e-suggestion box where you can do that.
There is Work to do
When you take a step to support the Foundation, you are helping build a healthier community with quality-of-life benefits for everyone who lives here. There is work to do. If you have not donated recently, why not now?
