Among the most valuable things connecting us as humans is our hearts. Although they are central to the functioning of our bodies, we — and our neighbors — do not always do what is best for them.
Take the problem of rehabilitation.
Although a heart attack is not the only reason a provider may prescribe cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, it is commonly recommended — because it works! Patients who successfully complete the course often enjoy a better quality of life. In addition to having a stronger heart (a flight of stairs does not look so daunting) and a decreased chance of future heart-related issues, patients often find their stress is reduced and their mood elevated.
One reason behind a six-eight-week course of rehabilitation classes is to help you build healthy habits to protect your heart. But making new habits is hard, and it is especially hard when you find you only have enough gas to make it to your cardiopulmonary rehab appointment … or your job.
When you donate to the GVMH Foundation, one of the many things your money does is help us ensure that people get to their cardiopulmonary rehab and other appointments every time. No matter how good our providers are, they can only help when patients are present.
If it has been a while since you have helped someone in the community through the Foundation, why not click this link and do it now? Do it from the heart.
