Birthing Center

Our birthing center combines the comforts of home with state-of-the-art medical facilities and highly trained obstetric and neonatal nurses.

We offer spacious, private labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum (LDRP) suites which include a birthing bed for the mother and a sofa sleeper for her support person. Our LDRP suites are equipped with the latest fetal monitoring equipment to allow our nurses to observe the mother and baby from anywhere in the birthing center.

Our birthing center also provides:
  • Level-one nursing care including a telehealth partnership with Children’s Mercy Kansas City that allows our team to work remotely with neonatal intensive care specialists through audio/video telemedicine equipment to examine infants in real-time
  • 24-hour epidural service available by qualified anesthesia staff
  • Dedicated cesarean section suite with neonatal resuscitation-trained nursery and respiratory therapy staff present at every delivery
  • Antepartum testing room for tests needed to monitor fetal health prior to delivery
  • Skin-to-skin bonding after delivery
  • Room service meals
  • Lactation consultant and monthly “Latch and Learn” classes
  • Secure floor with restricted access and infant security bracelets
  • Private waiting room for family and visitors
  • National Child Passenger Safety certified staff to ensure parents know how to properly secure their baby in a car seat prior to discharge

In addition, our birthing center offers two childbirth preparation courses to expecting parents—early pregnancy (prior to 20 weeks gestation) and OB pain management and childbirth preparation (after 24 weeks gestation). These free courses are open to the public and cover topics such as:

  • Doctor appointment expectations
  • Epidurals and pain management
  • Labor and birthing process
  • Nutrition recommendations
  • Physical body changes
  • Practice of breathing techniques
  • Tour of the birthing center

In the 48-hours after discharge, moms and babies can return for follow-up visits to do a weight check, repeat any lab work or receive breastfeeding assistance.

We are dedicated to providing compassionate, family-centered care to help you transition from expecting parents to new parents. To create the most positive and memorable birthing experience possible, we are here for the mother and baby every step of the way. From the time you enter the door to the time you leave, and even after discharge, we want you to feel confident in choosing Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare to be a part of one of your most special life moments.

Teleneonatology

Having a baby should be a joyous event—even when your baby needs specialized care.

At Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare, we have a telehealth partnership with Children’s Mercy Kansas City that allows our team to work remotely with neonatal intensive care specialists through audio/video telemedicine equipment to examine infants in real time, develop a plan of care and evaluate the need for transfer. This high-quality technology offers advanced care to our tiniest patients that may need a deeper level of treatment.

We partnered with the Children’s Mercy Division of Neonatology as they are recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of the top neonatology programs in the nation and have the region’s only highest-level (Level IV) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This means our babies have access to a full range of more than 400 newborn medicine specialists and specialized equipment.

Services Teleneonatology may provide include:

  • Thorough patient assessments
  • Consultations and assistance with diagnosis
  • Review of x-rays and lab results
  • Remote daily rounds, if needed
  • Education and timely communication with parents

Teleneonatology is used on a case-by-case basis depending on the level of care the infant may need. If a birth proves difficult or the infant is in distress, Teleneonatology may provide life-saving measures to critically ill patients. It can be used from the moment a baby is born up until discharge for patients who may need a higher level of care.

Maternal Fetal Monitoring

We also offer maternal fetal telemedicine services to focus on managing health concerns of the mother and fetus before, during and shortly after pregnancy. These services allow us to perform prenatal tests and provide treatments as necessary in both low-risk and high-risk pregnancies. With these capabilities, we are able to assist with pre-existing health concerns, as well as complications caused by pregnancy.
