Food & Nutrition Services

Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare provides healthy and nutritious menus for patients, guests and staff. We have an executive chef and licensed dietitians who work together to create delicious menus for our patients, Bistro, Café and catering services. As health professionals, we understand the importance of nutrition in overall wellness and healing. We curate meals designed to improve nutrient intake during your stay.

Room Service

Room Service Hours: Every day from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. (After-hours meals are available in the emergency department and patient units.)

Our patients love our hotel-style room service. We know that patients eat better when they can order what they want to eat, when they want to eat it, and we offer a wide variety of modified diets that are personally prescribed by the patient’s physician. If a patient is unable to call for room service, a family member can prearrange to call for the patient. Room service is also available to our cancer center and infusion patients, as well as patients in the emergency department.

Guests may also choose to purchase foods from the patient’s room service menu. Ordering directions are found on the front of the menu. For parents staying with a child 15 years or younger, one free room service tray is provided per meal.

Nutrition Services (Medical Nutritional Therapy-MNT) and Counseling

What is healthy eating? Balance. Variety. Moderation. Right-sized portions. Our licensed, registered dietitians are available to answer questions about food, diet and possible food-drug interactions. For in-depth nutrition therapy and counseling, your physician may refer you to a dietitian who can assist you with the management of your dietary needs and with making intelligent decisions regarding food and lifestyle choices that affect your health. A physician referral is required. When your referral is received, we will call to schedule your appointment.

At your appointment, our registered dietitian will make recommendations based on current scientific evidence, medical expertise and established professional protocol, including:

  • Diet education with an emphasis on practical tips and application
  • Individualized meal plan
  • Sample menu and snack ideas
  • Goal-setting opportunities
  • Continued support based on your needs and progress

Locations: Clinton, Osceola, Warsaw and Windsor

Getting Started:
The initial visit usually lasts at least one hour, during which a medical and diet history will be compiled. Your nutritional requirements and needs will be determined. A meal plan will be developed and instructions are provided to implement your plan. Follow-up sessions are approximately 30 minutes and are scheduled, as needed.

Medical nutrition therapy (MNT) costs may be covered by some insurance. Please check with your insurance provider for authorization prior to your first visit. Medicare coverage has been established for those with diabetes and renal failure. Your visits may be covered under your employer’s cafeteria plan. Visits may also be tax-deductible and financial assistance is available for those who qualify.

To prepare for your first visit, please bring:

  • List of your current medications
  • List of vitamins, minerals or herbal products being used
  • List of food allergies
  • Current lab result reports, if Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare services were not used

To discover the measurable difference nutrition therapy and counseling can have on your lifestyle, you need to be an active participant in your care. Some ways to accomplish this are by completing weekly food records, setting personal goals, incorporating exercise and keeping follow-up appointments.
